Second parent adoption is a process that allows one parent to adopt a non-biological child without terminating the rights of the biological parent. This process has been used for years for step parents that have a primary role in the child’s life. Second parent adoptions became possible for same-sex parents after same-sex couples won the right to marriage on October 7, 2014. Our firm works in many areas of LGBT rights and we are elated that the law now allows us to offer this service to our LGBT clients. We can help families through this exciting process and help them understand the special nuances for second parent adoption. Our primary goal is, of course, the individual client in each case. However, we are also interested on a larger scale in helping to protect all children living in same-sex families through second parent adoptions. We offer free consultation for this service.
